Gluten Free Sweet and Sour Meatballs

This year my girlfriend and I hosted Friendsmas at our house. This was my first Gluten Free Christmas! We had a bit of a potluck, everyone brought something to eat. One of our guests made two batches of Sweet and Sour Meatballs, one with gluten, one without. 

Ingredients:

Sauce:

  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup of ketchup
  • 1/2 cup of vinegar
  • 2 tbs of Worcestershire

Meatballs:

  • 1 egg
  • 10 crackers
For the gluten filled meatballs my friend crushed up 10 saltine crackers in a food processor. For the gluten free meatballs she used gluten free breadcrumbs from a local gluten free restaurant. You can use any gluten free crackers or breadcrumbs here.




Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 365F
  2. Combine sauce ingredients and mix well.
  3. Place the meatballs in a frying pan on medium heat to brown the outsides.
  4. Drain the fat and place the meatballs into a baking dish.
  5. Pour the sauce over the meatballs.
  6. Bake for 45 minutes, or until fully cooked.
  7. Stir the meatballs every 20 minutes.
I like to eat these meatballs with a large bowl of rice, rice noodles or gluten free stuffing!
